Asking about license plate

Hi experts,

I'm learning the dynamics ax 2012 R3 especially for warehouse management.

Can anyone explain to me about the license plate concept in AX 2012 R3.

Knowing that this feature is used in mobile devise.

I already see it in youtube.

but why we should define the license plate when we move goods?

Is that different with pallet ?
