New Security Guide for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Customers and partners frequently ask is there has been an update to the security guidance in the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Security Hardening Guide. The good news is: Yes! The documentation team has just released the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Security Guide, The Guide includes best practices for:

  • Planning security for Microsoft Dynamics AX
  • Hardening Microsoft Dynamics AX components against security threats
  • Setting up user security in Microsoft Dynamics AX

The new planning section applies the concept of defense-in-depth specifically to an AX enterprise environment, as illustrated in the following diagram:

Moving from the Internet (at the top of the diagram) downward through levels within the enterprise, the security policy accrues deepening layers of protection and monitoring, as represented by the vertical bars on the right. Note that the most valuable business assets are afforded the most protections.

After establishing this strategic context, the Guide pulls together the component-specific security documentation (for the client, AOS, databases, Enterprise Portal, and so on) in a format that can be surveyed as a whole for the first time.

The Guide is downloadable as a PDF file from the Microsoft Download Center. You can also browse the same content online at Technet.

We hope you find the Guide useful while planning and implmenting your deployment of Microsoft Dynamics AX. PLease let us know what you think via this forum.

Cheers,
