I have an interesting requirement from a client...
If an item is ordered by a customer for future delivery and the lead time of that item is less than the time between the order and the delivery, they would like the ordered quantity to be reserved against the incoming quantity on the purchase order rather the quantity on-hand. This way the on-hand quantity will be available for other customers with immediate requirements.
For example: Item A has one on-hand and 10 ordered in total from a purchase order. The lead time is 7 days and was ordered yesterday. A customer has placed an order for one of Item A to be delivered in 10 days.
I do not want to reserve the one on-hand because I want to leave that available for other customers. However, I want to ensure that I have at least one on-hand to deliver to the customer who ordered Item A for delivery in 10 days.
This is a retail environment with cash and carry purchases as well as future orders and shipments being made. Full warehouse management will be used and we will "reserve ordered items". We are still determining reservation policy, but will most likely "reserve when orders are released by a batch job".
I would like to know if anyone has any ideas on how to manage these reservation requirements within D365 functionality. If nothing else, I would love to hear some thoughts on identifying these scenarios where the last of the on-hand is reserved for delivery after replenishment would have been received.
I know it's a bit confusing but any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tim
