Distribution Requirements Planning
Greetings All,
We are currently implementing AX 2012. We have several warehouses around the globe, and our inside sales department typically ships product to our customers from their preferred (default) warehouse. However, if we cannot meet the customer's requested date from their default warehouse, and if we have inventory on-hand in other warehouses, our CSR's would then like to ship directly from the warehouse that is nearest the customer. Said differently, we would like to be able to define a hierarchy of warehouses that AX can use to determine the fastest way to get product to a customer based upon their distance from the warehouses. Some have referred to this as Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), but I am not sure if this is the correct term.
We have high sales volumes, so this needs to be a fast and efficient process. It is not feasible to have our CSR's researching (intercompany) on-hand inventory and manually determining the best (fastest) method for delivery for each sales order line. The ship complete option will also have an impact upon this logic.
What do you suggest? Is AX capable of doing this? How?

MS Dynamics AX 2012 R2 Retail HQ / Store DB Synchronization
We are setting up retail in R2 for demo purposes we did the following, we are using contoso db for the purpose
1. We have installed everything on single machine (i.e. AOS, POS, Application, Services)
2. We have configured the store
3. We have configured AOS, Database, Real-Time Service Profiles, Synch Service Profiles
4. We have made sure that Distribution Locations are correctly configured
5. We have made sure that Registers are correctly configured
6. We got 1 Store DB, 3 AX DBs, and 1 SynchServer DB on same Server
7. We tested AOS and Database Connection are working fine
8. We tested that we are able to send configuration to Synch Service
We are facing two issues at the moment,
1. When we run N### Jobs, they show success message, but store db is not populated
2. When we run POS we see two errors 1. The Application Could Not be Initialized followed by A system Error has occurred. The application will close.
Also, I dont understand do we need separate Synch Service Profile for Store and DB separately or we can use one for both, currently we only have one.
Any advise/help would be highly appreciated.

Roll over or closing the financial year in AX 2012
HI,
I would like to do the Roll Over of my company since I reconciled my accounts and everything seems like alright. How to do the Roll Over? In the same time I would like to take backup of one particular company because in my Dynamics we configured about 8 or 9 companies. So I have to take the backup of that particular company then only I would like to do Roll over. Anybody please suggest a method. I have posted the same thing sometime back but haven't received a convincing reply. And after taking backup how to restore it as well if something goes wrong?

HR Workflow: How to define position in these cases?
Hi Friends,
In our company there is a designation named "Business Unit Lead" who is the head of the department. He / She is one who takes decision to approve an process or to reject it. Also "Director for the department" designation is there in our company.
Case 1: In workflow, the process flow from the positions, Manager > Dept. Director > HR Committee > HR Director > Business Unit Lead > HR.
In this case, Business Unit Lead may be a separate person. The flow will go via him/her to the next level of approval. How I can define that the Business Unit Lead designation?
Case 2: In workflow, the process flow from the positions, Manager > Dept. Director (can also be Business Unit Lead ) > HR Committee > HR Director > HR.
In this case, Dept. Director can also be Business Unit Lead. The flow will go via him/her to the next level of approval. How I can define that the particular Director is also holds the position of Business Unit Lead?
Can you please give your valuable suggestion for above mentioned cases in workflow?

Synchronising Outlook via RDS
Hi All,
When we bought AX 2013 R2 I was then dissapointed to find that Outlook integration does not work if we deploy outlook via Remote Desktop Sevices.
However now i am coming to test our UAT environment I find it does work. I have added tasks, contacts and appointments and all sync perfectly, where I have outlook running or not. When I go into my local Outlook client all the relavent items are in my Calendar/contacts/tasks. same is true if I go into Outlook via RDS
What am I missing here ? Has the integration slipped into a service pack or does it just work but is not supported ?
I cannot find any other internet or forum comments that it works so I am doubting myself but have tested many times. Have nothing running on the PC except for the AX via RDS. put in the appointments, exit ( or not, doesn't matter ) AX, open outlook and sure enough its all there. Using all the combinations of AX ( Client, RDS ) and Outlook ( Client and RDS ) it seems to work
I am reluctant to roll it out to our team when the MS documentation is so clear that it is not supported.

Budget control and encumbrance relieving
We have budget control set to include all journals and all encumbrance and pre-encumbrance when calculating available balance as well as all journals and all source documents. In the over budget permissions group, we have no users added. We do not exclude anyone from getting over budget errors and the budget threshold for errors is 100.00 - when the budget is reached.
The issue is only occurring when the relieving amount on an order is posted, but not appearing in the budget inquiry area. For example, I have an order that is encumbered for 20,000 and invoices totaling 9,584.38, but there are only relieving transactions for 2,445.81 showing in the budget control window. This causes the budget to be exceeded and to go negative as additional invoices are entered.
Has anyone run across this where the relieving works fine in the purchase order module but not the budget area?

How to process an exchange for product that is less/more expensive than original product without issuing credit
We get returns from our retail stores (customer purchased boot elsewhere) and they return it to us and want a more expensive or less expensive product. Currently we are creating an RMA for the return let's say it is $50 but we do not want to credit them the $50 since they did not buy it from us. We create a sales order from the RMA using the replacement button and ship them a new product that is more expensive. Let's say $150 so on the sales order we just want to charge their card the difference of $100. The issue is when we process the RMA it puts posts a credit of $50 to their account which we don't want and then we are having to put a manual discount of $50 on the sales order to only charge the $100 which we also don't want to do.
In summary what is the proper way to perform an exchange where the product was not purchased from us and we don't want to credit the customer and only charge for the difference in the product?

Invoicing projects with multiple funding sources
How do you invoice a project with multiple funding sources? We have added the new customer to the project contract, and ensured the “use adjustment date as new project date” is checked in the Parameters setup, but when we create a new on-account transaction to try to create an invoice against the project, we only have the choice of the original funding source in the drop down on the “Sales” tab. Why can’t we select the newly added funding source as the customer on the invoice?

Budget funds available report
I am running this report on demo and it's fine, but in production environment, the revised budget column is all zeroes. If I go to budget analysis inquiry, however, the revised budget is populated. Do I need to have the year closed or some other prerequisite for the budget entries to appear in the budget funds available report?

Fixed Asset amount
Hi All ,
My Legal Entity currency - INR and Reporting currency - USD.
Now when i purchase the asset from the purchase order , acquistion value is posting to FA transaction table in INR currency , but it is not posting in the reporting currency to FA trans table.
( But same can be seen in Vend trans, Cust trans, Voucher trans .)
If i want to show that INR currency in Reporting currency in FA trans table , what is your suggestion?

AX 2012 Workflow - Escalation when a participant is temporarily absent
Hello!
I have set a Procurement workflow (Purchase requisitions) by using the Managerial hierarchy and everything works just fine. My problems begin when a participant in the approval process is temporarily absent (vacation, sick...). Is there an option to handle absences without having to change the hierarchy? I tried to use the escalation path but it seems to be unable to handle a condition such as "if this particular user is absent then use another user"...
Any idea is welcome.

Ax 2012 upgrade
I am upgrading from ax 2009 to ax 2012 cu7 with 4 new partitions, In Lanuch data upgrade(bulk copy) i get an error in task "Transfer number sequence framework tables."
